Storytelling in Photography – A New Article on RetouchingAcademy

I recently collaborated with Julia Kuzmenko McKim from Retouching Academy to publish a three-part article on the subject of storytelling in  photography, especially in concept photography and I’d like to share it with my blog readers as well. I strongly believe that thinking about the story can increase every photographer and visual artist’s awareness of their subject matter and give them strong directions how to proceed with it.

I would like to encourage the readers to share what stories mean to them and what their own experiences are in converting stories into visual art.

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Kind regards,

Thanks so much for this article John!! I loved it!! I want to do more creative, story telling, artistic, visionary work, but really had no idea where to begin. This article has given me not only a starting point, but reason why, method, direction…
    I loved it. Thank you.

Hi Rita, thank you for your comment. You just helped me to realize I need to update the links to the two final articles here :D.

Visual storytelling, conceptual, fine art, whatever you’d like to call it, all of it is extremely rewarding on so many levels. I’d be happy to help you if you feel that you need a second opinion on either a concept or a final image. Good luck with it. And if you get stuck, don’t forget: “embrace despair”! Many people stop at the first bump in the road, but there is ALWAYS a way past it.

      Best regards,
      John
